Community of Hope West Texas Region
holds Annual Retreat at Mustang Island Conference Center the weekend of February 12-14, 2010.
Our speaker was the Rev. Dr. Les Fairfield. The Topic was:
"Community of Caring" - Wisdom from the Early Church on the Ministry of Healing.
The Rev. Dr. Fairfield is a retired Church History professor and a popular historical tour guide. His series of talks at the retreat discussed how early Christians became an example to the masses in Antioch by their practice of the "Six Acts of Mercy", and in later centuries continued compassionate care for one another as Benedictine monasteries spread through out the world.
We all enjoyed the our beautiful "Island Home" on the Gulf of Mexico and the hospitality shown to us there by the staff of the Diocese of West Texas Mustang Island Conference Center.
